More about Moxham's Real Estate

John began his real estate career in Parramatta in 1960. From 1960 the business concentrated on selling development sites around Parramatta, and then selling the home units which were built on these sites. Many of these sales were to investors and so the management was given back to the business, and a substantial rent roll grew. Most of these landlords chose to stay with Moxham’s over the years, enabling the company to grow and prosper and, most importantly, survive as an individual company and compete favourably with the large conglomerates.
John became involved with the community through Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce, was a Director of the Parramatta Riverside Theatre, began Parramatta Probus Club and was always available for committees (Australia Day Committee; Rehabilitation for prisoners from Parramatta gaol, etc). He brought his simple traditional good manners, honesty, integrity and courteous ‘nothing is too much trouble’ ethic to every transaction – large or small – which gained him great respect and loyalty in the whole area.
In 2005, he sold the business and ‘semi-retired’ to Berowra Waters, where he had lived since 1989. He set up his home office there and has continued to sell waterfront properties and manage waterfront rentals with wife Sue ever since. The business now stretches from Cogra Bay, Wobby Beach, Brooklyn, Bar Point, lower Hawkesbury River, Coba Point, Marra Marra, Neverfail Bay, Collingridge Point and back to Berowra Waters.

His main office is his boat, and he has traded the dark suit, tie, and polished shoes, for shorts and an open-necked shirt. (He thinks he has died and gone to heaven.) He has remained actively involved with community issues, working on committees and local associations to better the district he is so passionate about.
People often comment that John is a ”different real estate agent” – as he tells them all the negatives about a property as well as all the positives. He often suggests people rent before they buy, to see how they cope with water-access living. As he and Sue have lived on the river since 1989, they are very well-equipped to talk about all aspects of river-living, and the community as a whole. As they recognise that for someone to buy one of these properties is not just to purchase a house, it is to change their whole way of life, they don’t mind how many times they take prospective purchasers out, or how much time they need to spend with them.

Once someone has decided to buy on the river, the job doesn’t stop there. John and Sue continue to offer help and support until the new resident has established their own contacts, sorted out boats, perhaps building or renovations have to be sourced and completed, keep them informed of local events, and generally just be there to answer questions and help with the settling in process.
