Moruya Preschool

Program and Philosophy
Preschool is about children learning through play in a positive and stimulating environment. It is a place where the children are extended in all areas of development (social/emotional; intellectual; physical; speech/language; cognitive) and are recognised as individuals with individual needs, interests and strengths. We respect and acknowlege the different family backgrounds of all the children and the role they have in the child’s world.

Our Program is organised around the National Early Childhood Curriculum Framework (Belonging, Being,Becoming). The programme is flexible, recognising that children develop at their own pace and working around things that happen spontaneously. (e.g. the weather and visitors). In following up on the children’s areas of interest we encourage them to explore and work with their own ideas. Excursions are planned to enhance the program and to extend the children’s experiences beyond the Preschool environment.

We like to balance this child-focused approach with attention to the foundation skills and preparation for school. We participate in transition programs with local primary schools. Profiles are kept for each child, including observations and developmental records.

Munch and Move
In 2008. we began to incorporate activities from the Munch and Move Program. The program has been developed by the Dept of Health in an effort to combat obesity in children and prompt healthy lifestyles. Nutrition and movement activities form the basis for the program.
