The Cultural Village consists of a number of facilities including the Community Centre, Heritage Centre and Community Woodworking Shed. It is also home to Gallery One, a dynamic and colourful arts facility that offers many community art programs.

Built 1870 the Mitcham Village Institute was built as a joint venture of the Mitcham School Committee and the Mitcham Institute Association. Used by the school until 1879, as the Council Civic Centre from 1880-1908 (when the East Wing was added) and by the library until 1966; this beautiful building can now be hired by groups and for provide bookings.

Also situated on this site are the Heritage Centre and the Community Shed. The Heritage Centre was built in 1892 as the Mitcham Police Station and holding cells, where they remained in operation until 1967. The Heritage Centre has staff and volunteers who can offer a local history service including research, family and house history, guided walks, presentations to schools and community groups, historical displays and programming of events.
