More about Mile Munchin Adventures

I’ll tell you the truth, making films is just an excuse to get out and see this big beautiful country. When you take your time to really look around to see what you can film you really do start to see things you could’ve missed when you were just cruising by.

I get out of bed in the morning because I like creating things, a Graphic Designer by trade making films has been part of my profession for a long time. Having had a production company in the early to mid 2000s, I saw my business partner in that business travel to Cape York with three mates and make a bloody great film about the trip called “Up Top Down Under”. They did this trip in 2003 before Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman did their first adventure trip “Long Way Round”. In my eyes they were pioneers of sorts, this was a long time before goPros, iPhones and action cameras which make it so much easier to film nowadays.

While I have admired motorbikes from afar and rarely had the chance to ride them during my first 43 years on earth. In 2015 I purchased my first bike a Suzuki DRZ400E, this is the bike you see in the Rocks, Roads & Ruins film. I love this bike, it had only 1,081kms on the clock when I purchased it and in the first 9 months I’ve owned it I’ve added 11,000kms. Dozer as I’ve nicknamed him has taken me to places I would never have seen.

So why did I take so long to get me first bike? Growing up I was never allowed to get a motorbike, my parents thought they were too dangerous. When I reached an age where I could make my own decisions I had other priorities and too many other expensive hobbies that kept me busy. The time was right in 2015 after I had spent a couple of days riding some mates bikes. I’d forgotten how much fun they were, the exhilaration did not leave me for weeks after those rides. So one day I calmly asked my wife, what she thought about me getting a bike? She responded very supportably by saying I should get one. I did well to contain my surprise.

So now I’m a bike rider and like my wife has told me many times. I never do any by halves, I’m all in or not at all. Dozer gives me the ability to HAPPEN UPON SOMETHING NEW… and there are very few better ways of doing it than on a motorbike.
