How I started in my hairdressing career , It all started back in 1978 when I had just left school, as a Saturday job and holiday job I worked in a butchers upon leaving school not knowing what to do I took up an apprenticeship in butchering. Not really liking this job but not really knowing what to do (as most 16 year olds don't), But I used to colour my mothers hair from about the age of 13 as she couldn't afford to go to the hair salon (we were a 1 parent family) so I went one day with my mum and watched how they did the colouring of her hair. Well that looked easy enough I said, so it began I coloured my mum's hair every 5 weeks and a dam good job I did or mum would not have been very happy ;) My mum managed a newsagency and a local hair salon owner always came to get his magazines for his salons from my mum's shop. He always remarked how nice her hair was, one day i had done mum's hair the night before and he came to pick up his magazines , he remarked how nice my mum's hair was and asked "who does your hair do you go to one of my salons?" to which my mum replied "No my son does it for me at home " well he said he looks to have some talent ask him if he is interested in becoming a hairdresser. Well when I got home that night mum told me of this new opportunity my reaction was "you have got to be joking" me a ladies hair dresser ?? I didn't think it was for me !! well over the next couple of days between my mum and my girlfriend at that time they talked me into going for an interview. I went to the salon and it was huge 35 staff in total and he had 6 more salons so he was a large group of salons , I walked in and thought WOW this is great it was buzzing and felt right. He offered me an apprenticeship and I accepted , well look at me now many years later and still going strong and still enjoying that buzz feeling that only transforming clients hair can give me now I am in my own salon and it feels great the future is looking bright .
