Michael Reid Murrurundi was established in 2006.

Situated in the thoroughbred, vineyard and coal-belt of the Upper Hunter Valley, in the small but significant town of Murrurundi, the gallery is an accessible drive from Moree, Armidale, Tamworth, Scone and Newcastle.

In late 2017, Michael Reid Murrurundi expanded into a new exhibition space constructed adjacent to the original gallery and the homestead Bobadil House (1842). Drawing on the history of Bobadil House as a working colonial inn, the Sydney and Scone based architects Dods and Zuccon conceived the new gallery as a large agricultural ‘outbuilding’ designed to complement the existing late-Georgian sandstone structures.

With the addition of the new gallery, the old gallery housed in the former convict cellblock was turned over to our coffeehouse and retail space. Over the last two years, the Murrurundi gallery has extended its own retail brand, Big Brown Dog. With online sales booming and the range of Big Brown Dog products constantly broadening, to include everything from candles to clothing, Michael Reid Murrurundi has grown ever greater.
