More about Melangata Station Stay

Melangata Station was first taken up as a pastoral lease in the early 1900s. It has had mixed fortunes over the years and at one point after the second world war it was abandon for some years.
The Homestead is very unusual as it was designed by Monsignor John Hawes who was a local Priest architect who was responsible for the design and construction of many buildings in the Midwest of Western Australia including the Catholic Cathedral in Geraldton and Our Lady of Carmel Church and buildings in Mullewa.
Melangata Homestead is the only privately owned residential building he designed apart from his Hermitage in the Bahamas in the world.
Our intention for Melangata is to renovate the bedrooms of the homestead to offer Dinner Bed and Breakfast for guests to be able to gain a genuine outback station experience.
For those that are more self sufficient we are in the process of developing a caravan and camping park in the bush next to the homestead. There will be toilets and hot showers on offer and part of the old shearing shed will be set up as a camp kitchen.
We also intend offering full day tag along tours through some of the beautiful breakaway country on Melangata Station. A charge per vehicle will apply and morning tea will be provided.
Melangata Station is situated centrally to beautiful displays of wildflowers when the seasons are good we are also a nice drive away to the Historic town of Cue.
Along the road to Cue you will also find the Dalgaranga Meteorite Crater and Walga Rock and lovely scenery along the way.
Melangata, although it has no known gold to be found, is surrounded by known prospecting patches in the area.
There are numerous Granit outcrops and Breakaways that provide fantastic opportunities for finding wildflowers and sighting native animals, birds and reptiles.
The only thing we do ask is that you do not bring your dogs as we are in the process of trying to control the wild ones in the area that attack our sheep and we would hate to see your beautiful fur baby harmed in any way.
Melangata Station Stay will be open in the future from May to the beginning of October.
At the moment we are cleaning up 20 years of rubbish around the homestead and bringing some of the facilities into the 21st century to make not only our lives easier but provide our guests with clean modern facilities.
Melangata will be a work in progress for a few years to come.
