UK-native Martin Taylor’s lifelong drive for creating other-worldly experiences has finally come to fruition with the singularly immersive medium of virtual reality. VR unites his dual affinities for technical and creative disciplines, by providing the perfect canvas for bringing stories to life in ways that defy traditional formats.

Taylor leveraged an early education in industrial product design to dive into the world of practical visual effects, launching a nearly two-decade filmmaking career. While in film school, his interest in authentic human stories drove him into the documentary world.
Taylor’s documentary projects have earned widespread international industry acclaim, with over 150 screen credits to his name in every area of production, working with broadcasters and commercial clients alike.

It is Virtual Reality however that marks the perfect nexus of his technical skills, storytelling prowess and his passion for all aspects of the mind’s inner view. While learning Directing at film school, Taylor studied viewer Psychology and Semiotics, which now plays an integral part in shaping his VR narratives and also in reaching out to new and unchartered areas of virtual world application.

At the emergence of VR in the early 90s, Taylor was immediately struck with the power of the medium to enable creators to build breathtaking new worlds. It wasn’t until his first Oculus Rift experience that he immediately pivoted to master VR technology and processes head-on.

Martin Taylor is Head of Content at Start VR, where he oversees production and forges new storytelling techniques with a practical hands-on approach.

Aside from developing exciting original story content, Martin is championing special projects within Start VR to explore the use of VR in healthcare, mental wellbeing and the development of human consciousness . Martin is a regular keynote speaker and panelist on these subjects, specializing in VR as a trailblazing storytelling medium, and as a potent tool for the mind.
