More about Manly Warringah Avicultural Society

The Manly Warringah Avicultural Society (MWAS) has a proud history, being one of Australia's oldest continuing avicultural clubs.

Established in 1957, we are a dedicated group of bird enthusiasts who are engaged in promoting responsible and ethical bird keeping and bird conservation.

We are actively involved in the Northern Beaches community (Sydney), including assisting aged care facilities with the care of their birds.

The club's membership includes some of Australia's most experienced aviculturalists, so if you're thinking of getting into birds, why not learn from some of the best.

Aviculture is an enjoyable and fulfilling hobby, available to all ages. All new members and visitors are most welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings or events.

We meet the third Thursday of every month (except Dec/Jan) at the Forest Community Arts Centre, 6 Darley Street, Forestville NSW 2087. Meetings commence at 7pm and run for about two hours. Supper is provided.

SOME HISTORY
Over the years, the MWAS has had many members who were nationally and internationally known and respected. These members not only helped to advance Australian aviculture and bird conservation, but many were involved in developing new colour varieties in various species of birds, as well as achieving rare breeding results.

In the early years of the MWAS, meetings were held in the 'sheds' at Brookvale Oval, where the club also held its annual show, which coincided with the Brookvale Show.

In 2017, the MWAS celebrated its 59th consecutive annual show, showcasing a range of avian species including canaries, budgies, finches, lovebirds and parrots.

Life members (in order of appointment) of the MWAS are:
1. Maurie ANDERSON
2. Peg WONDERLY
