About two hours from Melbourne, Maldon is superbly located as a base from which to explore Victoria's Golden Triangle. This wonderful town is nestled up against Mt. Tarrangower and within a district rich in agricultural, pastoral and mining activity. It has retained its authentic old-world charm and beautifully preserved its gold-mining history. This town, steeped in history, was declared Australia's first Notable Town in 1966 by the National Trust. It once had quartz reefs that were among the world's richest, and the legacy of this can still be seen in the grand houses and commercial buildings of that era.
