More about Mackay Professional Counselling Service

What is Counselling ?
Counselling is a process that focuses on enhancing the psychological well-being of the client, such that the client is then able to reach their full potential. This is achieved by the counsellor facilitating the client's personal growth, development & self understanding, which in turn empowers the client to adopt more constructive life practices. Counselling can enable the client to develop a clearer understanding of their concerns & help them acquire new skills to better manage personal issues. The counsellor can offer a different perspective & help you think of creative solutions to problems. Sharing your thoughts & feelings with someone not personally involved in your life can be most helpful. Counsellors work from differing theoretical frameworks. Different counsellors will place varying levels of emphasis on behaviour, thinking &/or on motional aspects.
At Mackay Professional Counselling we take an eclectic approach
(use of many therapies) to counselling as one therapy doesn't suit all, we are all individuals.
We have two counsellors operating. Mr Greg Bentley (MACA). Greg is a qualified professional Counsellor/ Psychotherapist, registered with the Australian Counselling Association and is a member of the prestigious "William Glasser Institute". He has extensive experience in the field for the past eight years. Greg regularly attends meetings at Mackay Regional Mental Health Network and was an active member of the former MDGP Palliative Care Advisory Committee for two years, one of which he was Deputy Chairman.
Greg's approach to therapy is eclectic; having trained in many different modalities of therapy and Critical Incident Response. He does not believe one model of therapy suits all. His client base is Generic.
Mackay Professional Counselling had operated for the last two years at the GP Superclinic Rural View. Due to an increased demand for services Greg needed to expand. He now has a female counsellor working with him.
Ms Deborah Luciano. Deborah is a member of the Australian Community Counselling Association (ACCA) and the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).
Deborah began her counselling career as a telephone counsellor. Some of the issues she dealt with were: relationship issues, suicide, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, elder abuse, children's challenging behaviour & sexual issues.
Deborah has an extensive history working in the aged care sector, dealing with family issues, all aspects of elder abuse & grief & loss.
Deborah has also worked extensively with disengaged youth, youth in residential facilities, youth on child protection orders & court orders.
Deborah is compassionate & caring; she takes a humanistic approach to her counselling believing every person has their own unique way of perceiving & understanding. Deborah endorses the idea that people have a free will & are capable of choosing their own actions & focuses on how people can be helped to fulfil their potential & lead more contented lives.
Deborah's client base is Generic (All Issues). Deborah also specialises in all child & youth issues.
Both Greg & Deborah are holders of Positive Notice Blue Cards.
