Lucy's Project

Lucy was stillborn to the founder on 4th June 2013. A beloved first child who never drew breath, she was the most innocent of the innocents. Lucy's Project seeks to ensure Lucy did not die in vain and that in her name, studies and early intervention programs can be established and funded to protect innocent women, children and animals that are victims of domestic violence. For victims and children experiencing domestic abuse and consequent social isolation, the role of a pet can be intensified as there may be no other source of emotional support. It is not surprising that pets are frequently targeted by perpetrators as part of their coercion and control strategies. Cruelty towards animals may be a predictor of the likelihood and severity of abuse against partners and children. Lucy's Project aims to increase awareness of the role of animals in domestic violence and work with early intervention programs to identify and report animals and children at risk. A baseline study is already underway but as a brand new project, much more funding is needed to make a dent in Lucy's Projects ultimate goal; that more animals, children and victims can be protected from domestic violence.
