Lower Herbert Community Kindergarten is affiliated with C&K. C&K was founded in 1907 and pioneered the development of early childhood services in Queensland. It is a non-profit, community controlled organisation and operates pre-schools, kindergartens, mobile kindergartens, child care centres, playgroups, family day schemes and resource centres for the assistance of parents and teachers. C&K is Queensland’s leading pre-schooling professionals. C&K’s philosophy is that every child deserves access to quality early education and care within a supportive, local community. As such, C&K strives to provide caring, fun, safe, inspiring and educational environments for children.
Lower Herbert Community Kindergarten first opened its doors in 1967 providing a quality education ever since to Halifax's local residents, generation after generation. We currently have 20 children enrolled at our centre. We have two qualified staff members who teach the children at the centre. We are completely run by the Committee, which is made up of volunteer parents.
We are involved with our local community in many ways - in a "Reading Buddies" program with students at St Peters as well as being involved in school events such as Arts Council and Under 8's day. We have community ties to local business and the community by running weekly Bingo mornings and also a link emergency services in Halifax through centre visits.
