Lisa Kaur Illustration

Hi there! My name is Lisa Kaur and I am an illustrator living in Adelaide, however my heart is scattered across the globe from Australia, to Denmark and India. I have a cat called Rani who helps me in the studio and a lovely husband who joins me through every creative adventure. I have drawn my entire life, but was formally educated at the University of South Australia where I obtained my degree in Visual Arts (Painting). I am inspired by Francesca Woodman, Louise Bourgeois, Tracey Emin, Madhubani Art and Japanese Woodblock Prints.

My illustrations commenced in 2012 when I was studying my undergraduate in Visual Arts. At the time my work was quite confessional and in order to release my emotions I drew figures with quick and emotive brush strokes. My works were originally faceless so that instead of looking at myself and being distracted by a face, the viewer could look inward and relate to the portrait in their own way from their own life experiences.

In 2014 I began to make these portraits for others in a way that expanded my figure drawing by turning to the external world for inspiration.
