OUR HISTORY!

Ownership of Rex Lethborg and Sons Funerals (incorporating Tamar Valley Funerals) has been passed on to Rex and Jeanette Lethborg’s son Philip. Rex and Jeanette’s eldest son Michael continues to be an integral part of this successful family business.

“The Lethborg name is synonymous with football so the term handballed seemed apt”, Rex said with his familiar cheeky grin. “Jeanette and I bought the business from Charlie Parker nearly forty years ago and it has been a privilege to serve so many families in that time. Charlie and I were at the Bowls club having a beer together when Charlie said “You should buy my business Rex”. Not one to pass up a good opportunity I said “I am not sure I can be sombre enough for the funeral business but I will give it a go. As it turns out people have really appreciated a warm smile and also the care my wife Jeanette brought to the business, not to mention all the great work Michael has done over the years.”

Rex and Jeanette purchased Tamar Valley Funerals formerly owned by Stan Hinds a few years later and John and Beryl Osborne have been our Tamar Valley representatives for 30 years.

Philip paved his own way into the funeral business. Philip and Elizabeth established their own business in Longford in 1994 and then expanded into Launceston and Deloraine. Philip and Elizabeth sold this business in 2004 when Philip was studying to be a pastor in Brisbane.

Philip and Elizabeth moved back to Tasmania at start of 2012 with their 3 children and are excited about managing the family business. Philip often officiates at funerals and is passionate about making funerals meaningful. “Every person is different and so is each funeral service. We are here to help facilitate the most fitting farewell for people’s loved ones as possible.”

Philip and Michael look forward to taking on the challenge to serve another generation of families.
