SPIRIT OF LEGACY
The Spirit of Legacy is Service, and the key element is the personal contact maintained by Legatees, with the families of deceased servicemen and women allocated to them, whom they assist. It is this personal contact that makes Legacy care special and gives the work of Legacy its unique character and is the driving force that determines the way Legatees carry out their duties.
THE CHARTER OF LEGACY
The Charter of Legacy was agreed in 1930. It requires individual members, known as Legatees, through personal effort, to care for the dependants of veterans who died while on operational service or subsequently. This includes safeguarding the mental, moral, vocational and physical welfare interests of the children of deceased veterans. Legatees consider it to be a privilege to accept the legacy of caring for the widow(er)s and children of their fallen comrades.
THE BADGE OF LEGACY
The Badge of Legacy was adopted in 1926 and symbolises in its torch the undying flame of service and sacrifice handed to us by our comrades in war who have passed on. In its wreath of laurel, with its points inverted in remembrance, is the symbol that Legatees are honouring the fallen by supporting the families left behind.
