More about Launceston Counselling

Launceston Counselling offers a number of services:
* Individual counselling sessions
* Group and individual education sessions
* An eight week Mindfulness program for individuals or groups.

Individual Counselling Sessions:
Working from a neuroplasticity based model of recovery and the using the principles of Mindfulness you will learn how stress and lifestyle factors can cause changes in the brain that negatively affect memory, logic, concentration, emotions, energy levels, motivation, sleep patterns and can lead to clinical depression and anxiety disorders.
You will learn that these changes are not things you can just “get over”, ignore, “tough out” or manage with medication alone. In order to recover from depression and anxiety disorders you need to know how to reverse these changes. At Launceston Counselling you will learn all of the practical skills necessary to do this.

Topics Covered in the Group and Individual Education Programs Include:
* Nutrition and Gut Health
* Sleep Hygiene
* Relaxation and Breathing strategies
* Mindfulness
* Effective Communication and Relationship Building
* Recognising and Overcoming Perfectionism
* Recognising and Controlling the Body's Stress Response
* Anger Management
* Problem Solving
* Neurological Changes in Depression and how these can be overcome
* Self-Esteem Building
* Recognising and Preventing Relapse

Mindfulness Program:
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) : Designed by Segal, Williams and Teasdale to help those who suffer repeated bouts of depression, MBCT is now recognised as the most effective treatment for preventing depression relapse. Launceston Counselling has a structured eight week program that will help you understand what makes you vulnerable to depression, why you may feel "stuck" in depression and how the pressures of modern life can bring on and perpetuate depression and anxiety. The program will help you recognise when your mood is getting low so you can stop it before it takes hold, help you stop the constant chatter in your mind and help you reconnect with life. (See our Mindfulness page for more details)

You don’t need to keep just toughing it out. There are very simple things you can do that will get you feeling better so you can just get on with getting on.
