The History of Lauderdale Football Club

1863:
The beginning of football in the district when Clarence Plains competed in a country competition.

1882:
Rokeby represented the district in 1882 (and then later in 1985 to 1988 they were in the Tasman Football Association).

1930-1958:
Sandford competed in the South Eastern Football Association and in the Clarence Sub Districts Football Association 1949-1952. Club colours were blue with red sash. A team representing Ralphs Bay also competed in the Clarence competition 1957 and 1958.
The Clarence Football Club sponsored this competition.

1979-1995:
Lauderdale re-formed and joined the Tasman Football Association (TFA), competing during the 1979 and 1980 seasons in black and white “magpie” colours.

From 1981 to 1995 they were members of the Tasmanian Amateur Football League (TAFL), southern division, competing in blue and white “cats” colours.
The Club’s first Premiership in the TAFL was won in 1991, by both Seniors and the Lauderdale Reserves. They were runners up in 1993.

1996-2000:
When the Amateurs and the Huon Football Association disbanded, Lauderdale was admitted as an inaugural member of the Southern Football league (SFL).
Lauderdale was the first SFL club to introduce night football in Tasmania in 1998.

2001-2008:
Seniors and Reserves premierships in 2001.
In 2002 when the SFL competition was divided into two divisions Lauderdale were part of the Regional Division. They were runners up in 2002 and 2003 and Brad Marsland won the 2002 Hodgman Medal.

From 2004 to 2008 the Club participated in the AFL Southern Tasmania SFL Premier League changing their colours from blue and white to red and black….. “The Bombers”.

2007 marked a stellar year for Lauderdale when the club grabbed four Premierships out of a possible eight.

2009 - 2016:
Lauderdale is one of ten clubs across Tasmania competing in AFL Tasmania’s Wrest Point State League at Senior and Reserve level.
