More about Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail

If you find yourself with spare time when you are travelling in the Barcaldine Region then take the drive around the Lake Dunn Sculpture Trail. There are more than 20 sculptures along the way as well as the renowned Gray Rock and Lake Dunn. Before you leave Aramac take the time to find the giant scrap metal Red Roo that is situated at the Roo works. This trail can be travelled either way because it is a circuit starting at Aramac and ending at Aramac and it covers a distance of approximately 200km. The sculptures are being added to all the time so the list given in this brochure at the time of printing is the most up to date and it is up to you to find them all. Many People ask how the sculptures came to be there. Ask a local and you might get an interesting story, it may be said that it was an idea by a Sheila with a few too many roos loose in the top paddock. In reality the sculptures are there because the local Sculptor (who resides on a Grazing Property along the trail) decided that she needed a platform to display her work and went about creating one of the biggest permanent outdoor sculpture exhibitions in the world. She did this for her love of sculpture and turning junk into art and also the wish to put a smile on the face of the people who travel through one of the most historical and beautiful parts of Queensland. The artist who creates outside works only on commission tries to add a sculpture to her roadside exhibition whenever she has the time. Now this well kept local secret is out and is becoming an international phenomenon with travellers who come to view the exhibition while they are in the Barcaldine Region.
