More about Kyabram Free Press

The Kyabram Free Press was established by Charles Bollinger in 1892 to compete with the Union and the Guardian.
In 1892, the Free Press was purchased by Charles and Walter Wilson, and in August 1900 they launched the Tatura Free Press by simply changing the masthead for the paper’s Tatura circulation. E J Morgan owned the Free Press from 1912 until his death in 1936, when his son, J E Morgan assumed the management.
In the intervening years, ownership of the two Guardians, still printed in Tatura, passed to Edward Hanley and later to H S Davy.
In 1938, Percy John Clements, a former proprietor of the Finley Mail (1926 – 1937), bought the two Guardians and merged them with the respective Free Press papers. From January 1939, Kyabram had its Free Press and Tatura the Guardian Press, each published weekly.
R L (Bob) Evans and his sister Mollie (Murton) purchased the papers in 1946, and they were sold to Kyabram Newspapers Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the McPherson Group, in 1966.
From 1966, the Free Press was issued bi-weekly and the Tatura Guardian weekly.
Over recent years, the Guardian had been similar to the Tuesday issue of the Free Press but with a change of masthead and several pages.
In 2009, the Free Press became a weekly publication. It is now issued on Wednesday.
The Guardian became a standalone paper and is published on Tuesdays.
The Manager is Haydn O’Neale. The editor is Andrew Mole.
