In 1931, Charles Bland, a horticulturalist from Kirkconnell, 30kms east of Bathurst, delivered New South Wales' first Brussel Sprouts to Denning Brothers, at Sydney Markets (the old Haymarket). This was to be the first vegetable season on the Kurrawong property.

His son, John Bland took on the family farm in 1941 and continued to grow sprouts, cabbages And eventually apples from the 1960s Johns sons continue the legacy today Quentin Bland, 18, delivered his first pick of Brussel Sprout in 1976. As the farm expanded, broccoli became the vegetable of choice with over a million seedling per year being sewn.
