Kimberley Mechanical & Tilt Tray Service

In August 2007, while exploring the Kimberley on our holidays from Kalgoorlie, we happened to breakdown in our vehicle while in Kununurra. Trying to source a mechanical shop that could fit in the vehicle for complete engine rebuild in a quick time proved to be unsuccessful, with the earliest being 7weeks. The cost quoted also was a huge shock to us, as it would be too many travellers/tourists, and didn’t seem right. We did not have the time or that sort of money to be stuck in one place for that long. Being from an extensive mining & mechanical background (20Yrs), we flew the parts in from Kalgoorlie at a third of the cost quoted & Jarrod had the vehicle back on the road within 6days.
While Jarrod fixed the vehicle, I did a little bit of investigating & listening to locals, tourists & a few businesses on the subject of times taken and costs to repair vehicles. I must admit I didn’t think we would be given so much information that by the time we hit the road to head back to Kal’, we started to think it would be a great idea to start a ‘fair and honest’ business here with much quicker turnaround times. We both loved the Kimberley environment & Kununurra’s’ community feel within the town. We also drank from the Ord River, so the saying must be true; “If you drink from the Ord, You will return”.
Fast forward to August 2008. After sourcing a property in Kununurra, we set up business. Being from a small town originally & being new to Kununurra, we knew it would take up to at least 3 years to develop our name & gain trust from the community. Nearly six years down the track it has been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
