Karadi Aboriginal Corporation

Karadi Aboriginal Corporation was established in 1988 to create a separate women's space that allowed for activities that although could be perceived as just 'arty farty' had an underlying objective, ie. to increase self esteem, promote health and other issues.

Over the years, the changes to program delivery have been many, but the purpose of Karadi has not changed. That is to:

Help the Aboriginal Communities needs and aspirations
Be an Indigenous specific organisation as much as possible
Assist in nurturing arts and culture
Assist in the promotion of Health and Aboriginal Community relations
Continue to advocate and promote important issues within the Aboriginal and Wider Community

Karadi is based in Goodwood (Tasmania) and is governed by a five member board of directors and currently employs 14 staff.

National Healing Foundation
Department of Health and Human Services

As KARADI is also a Neighborhood House, we offer a range of programs that are open to the wider community, as well as the Aboriginal community.

These programs are HACC, Morning Tea and Community Lunch. During the year we also run other programs as part of the Neighborhood House, such as a school holiday program and exercise classes that are also open to all.

The HACC program includes the HACC Day Centre and HACC Personal Care hours.

All other programs run through KARADI are Aboriginal specific, including - Aged Care, Health Network, NAIDOC, Aboriginal Women's Leadership Training, Women's Cultural Retreats and the many activities that fall under our Indigenous Women's Program.

It has long been seen that Karadi only works with Aboriginal women but this is no longer the case. Our services are open to the whole family, incorporating Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal spouses and children. We hope this makes for a more holistic approach to servicing the family and their needs.
