Kapululangu Women's Law and Culture Centre was established by Indigenous women elders in Balgo in Western Australia in 1999, but traces its history to 1983 and beyond that to 60,000 years ago.
The women elders live on the Balgo Women's Law (Ceremonial) Ground.Balgo is 3000 km from Perth (the capital city of WA). This is red rock mesa country.
Kapululangu runs an intergenerational cultural knowledge transmission program of Law (ceremony) and Culture (traditional practice) activities designed to assist Balgo people to enjoy, revitalise and sustain their Indigenous identity and heritage.
Kapululangu is governed by 12 Elders and Directors and has three staff. It is a local response to locally-identified problems through implementing locally-inspired strategies.
