More about John Raptis Photography - Visceral Industry

Melbourne based photographer John Raptis is hardly ever seen without a camera attached to his person.

His ‘official’ tongue in cheek mantra goes something like this “By day, a mild mannered multimedia director but by night a super-heroic rock photographer armed with lens, attitude and a vast collection of black tee shirts!” - but to label John just as a live music photographer is selling him short.

John predominantly photographs the streets of Melbourne and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest street photographers. He also divides his photographic time covering the many and diverse concert stages of Australia having photographed hundreds of international touring acts for magazines, social media, promoters, artists, venues, stores and online and print publications.

John has had work published in magazines the world over: (Heavy, Skin Deep, Bound By Ink, Collide Art & Culture, Drum Magazine, The Bulletin, Desktop, Fiend, The Age, Herald-Sun).

His work has also appeared in the following books: (Ace Frehley – No Regrets, Everfresh Blackbook, Hide & Seek Melbourne and as the cover of the Amy Choi novel Playing House).

He has exhibited in three exhibitions and is currently in the planning stages for two solo exhibitions – one based on his street photography the other on his live music work.

John has self-published two books both of which are sold out and currently in a second printing. (Three Songs, No Flash (2011) and Fade To Black (2014).
