More about Jesse Shaw Photography

Since i discovered my itchy feet i relied on my photographs and videos to remind me of my memories and places i've been. I decided not to start a journal of my travels as there is so many things to see and do instead of absorbing time writing in a diary. When i left home for the first time on my own I was a bit worried how I'd handle it. I was constantly putting myself out my comfort zone, building my own independence. But turned out I loved it, I guess the adrenaline is quite addictive. It was a test roaming one of the worlds biggest and busiest cities 'New York' by myself not knowing a soul. It put me 'in my place' realising how small you really are in this world (well in that city at least). Being by myself helped me boost my confidence, making me go out of my way to start conversations with people i didn't know and making new friends from across the globe. When I resided in Banff National Park in Canada on a working holiday visa I decided with all this beautiful landscape around me I needed a better camera than the back side of my cell phone, so I bought a mirrorless camera.

Photos are so important to me as I know i have a very poor memory, wether it be from the amount of alcohol I drank when i was younger or from all the head knocks in rugby, but when i have an image to look back on it spikes so many good times around it. Just like an album you'd buy before you left on a holiday and absolutely abused it throughout your holiday then when you listen to it again a few years down the track it reminds you of the holiday.

My biggest passion is astro photography, it is by far the hardest type of photography in my perspective. Not only because of the settings but also the challenge against all elements (at nighttime). Here in Australia the conditions aren't as harsh compared to Canada when i was first learning. The outcome of a well composed night photo is right up there almost unreal... the camera can pick up so much more than what your eyes can see and thats what i love the most about it... being able to see the ineffable.

I'd like to share with people who are in different circumstances and are unable to see the beautiful places I've seen. I am so inspired when i see photographs of places I haven't been. I hope to one day give some of that inspiration to others through my photos. This world is so massive and we all share such a short time to adventure it.

My big picture is to one day be able to make an income 'on the road'.

I'm yet to take any classes, I haven't been committed to staying in the same spot for a long enough time to enrol. I've only learnt from reading, practicing (a lot) and of course my mistakes... so feedback would be great!

I am currently selling my prints at local markets around kingscliff, NSW Australia
