Jane Irwin Landscape Architecture (JILA) has been established in Sydney since 1996, building expertise in landscape architecture and urban design through a diverse and eclectic range of projects at all scales, from the intimacy of gardens to the broad shaping of new pieces of the city. Each project is an exploration of physical place, and how people shape, and are shaped by, the natural and built environment.
A long association with Sydney’s leading architects and urban designers has fostered a deep understanding of the intersection of the built and natural environment, and the relationship between built form and public domain. We often combine the complementarity of architecture, landscape architecture and art through collaborative projects, particularly in urban projects and public domain design.
JILA participates in competitions and experimental projects to incubate and test thinking about landscape design and urban planning, winning with Hill Thalis and Paul Berkemeier the East Darling Harbour International Design Competition in 2006.
A commitment to quality, horticultural research and experimentation and an understanding of environment pervades the practice’s work, resulting in a rich expression of landscape and place.
