More about James' Urban Farm

My farm is based on the spin farming model.

This small scale farming model makes use of unused urban land. Farming unused land in the urban area provides me with the benefit of being able to grow my produce close to the customer. It also benefits the land owner, who doesn't have to waste time or money mowing and taking care of the land. The land owner also benefits from receiving a portion of the produce or rent for the use of the land.

Urban farming is better for the environment as the produce is made very close to the point of sale (local farmers markets), which reduces the need for transport. Also, as it is farming on a small scale, there is no need for chemical pesticide or fertiliser. Urban farming also means that more of the country side can be left wild, for animals and us to enjoy. All over, urban farming is better for our future.

I plan to make the freshest, healthiest veggies and herbs. Produce in supermarkets can be in storage or transit for months. As I will be farming locally, I will be able to harvest only days before the veggies and herbs are sold. This means the freshest herbs and veggies for you. Also being chemical free, my herbs and veggies will be healthier for you.

Currently, I am starting really small, in the backyard. Over the next few months I will be slowly increasing production of veggies and herbs, and improving the quality. During this time I will be selling to family and friends. Once I have the quality and consistency sorted, I will begin seeking more land to grow on and will also begin selling at local farmers markets.
