ABOUT IRON STRENGTH POWER & PERFORMANCE

Elias 0423 531 278 | Jacky 0432 427 055

Iron Strength Power & Performance (ISPP) is a high performance strength training facility. We specialise in POWERLIFTING and STRONGMAN, and our services extend to any strength sport and strength performance activity.

The facility is primarily open gym, whereby our athletes & members train according to their own schedule, following a ‘program’ written by their specific sports coaches or ISPP coaches. Our members range from professional & amateur athletes to clients completely new to strength training. One on one and introductory powerlifting courses are an additional service.

Equipment in the facility is mainly comprised of free weights. There are no cardio machines. There are plenty of squat racks, bench presses, lifting platforms, weightlifting bars, bumper and cast iron plates, dumbbells and odd implements to lift, drag, pull, push and press with.

ABOUT US

ISPP has been a lifelong dream. We have developed ISPP to create awareness of Powerlifting and Strongman, and to provide a facility to train for these specialised sports. Our passion and love for these sports have primarily driven our motivation to bring this facility to Cairns.

We promote drug free lifting and have affiliated with Powerlifting Australia, which is governed by the Australian Sports Commission & the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Agency. We are working with Ironclad Powerlifting in Townsville to hold 4 PA powerlifting comps annually between Cairns and Townsville.

Our facility is for anyone who is serious about their strength training. They can be from all sporting backgrounds, levels of ability, age and gender. We want to create a supportive community whereby members train together and encourage and motivate each other. We train hard and have high expectations of ourselves as both coaches and athletes.

We hope to motivate and inspire everyone to take up a strength journey of their own.

A LITTLE ABOUT POWERLIFTING

Powerlifting, often confused with Olympic lifting, is a sport in which competitors attempt to lift as much weight as possible for one repetition in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Competitions are generally all day events that begin with the squat, progress to the bench press, and conclude with the deadlift. Every lifter is allowed three attempts at each lift, making for a total of nine competition lifts throughout the day. The best successful attempts for each lift are added together giving the athlete a total score in kg’s lifted. Each lifter is placed into a specific division and classified by several variables including weight class & age group.

A LITTLE ABOUT STRONGMAN

Strongman is a sport that could only be described as strength athletics. Unlike powerlifting where the competitors aim only for maximal strength, strongman competitors must also have speed, agility and endurance. The principle task is to pick up random heavy objects and move them as part of an “event”. Strongman events are always varied and often unknown until the day of competition, and can comprise of 1 or more movements to make up an event. Some events include truck pulls, farmers carries, yoke carries, atlas stone loads, log presses, trailer/car deadlifts and even throwing events like a keg toss. Scoring in competition is dependent on each event and can be based on time, repetitions, or maximum weight lifted. The competitor with the highest overall score across all events is the winner.
