The ultimate triathlon challenge 100 iron distance triathlons in 100 days starts in Sydney on September 28 2016 to raise funds for Australian Red Cross.

Two renowned endurance athletes will execute a triathlon every day for 100 days. In this world first John Mergler and Debi Hazelden will respectively attempt to complete 100 iron distance triathlons and 100 half iron distance triathlons in 100 days. That’s right…. Debi will swim 1.9km, ride 90km and run 21.1km whilst John doubles up and swims 3.8km, rides 180km and runs 42.2km every day for 100 consecutive days! Between them they will clock up 570km of swimming, 27,000km of riding and 6,300km of running a combined total of 33,870km which is the distance from Sydney to New York and back!

Debi and John are engaged to be married and have a young son named Ryder. They met on the day that Debi was becoming the 3rd women ever to achieve the feat of Everesting on a bike. Everesting is repeatedly climbing the same hill until you reach the height of Mount Everest; in Debi’s case 162 repeats of Watsons Bay hill in Sydney to reach the 8848 meters. John heard about this crazy woman and after a 200km bike ride he ran out to Watsons Bay to see what was happening. Just over a year later they got engaged on the same hill and the rest is history! Rather, they are about to make history by becoming the first people to clock up the Iron Century!

The Iron Century couple are experienced ultra distance athletes and have a been planning this epic for many months and is the culmination of years of training and participation in some of the world’s most grueling endurance events. This Sydney based couple have the support of an amazing group of friends, family, athletes and sponsors who will all play an important part in getting John and Debi to the finish on day 100 where they will compete in Ironman Australia in Port Macquarie.
