More about Hypersonic Industries

We have proudly been making beds for Australian families, right here in Melbourne since 1963.

Owned and operated by the Wells family, we provide our customers with products proven in the market place for quality, comfort and durability.

Our beds are manufactured to the highest of standards using top grade Australian steel as well as other local raw materials. Our Bunk Beds are designed to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 4220 Bunk beds and other elevated beds.

All products have been specifically designed to meet the needs of the Accommodation Industry but if you can’t find exactly what you’re after, give us a call. Being a local manufacturer means we have the flexibility to custom make furniture to ensure it meets the needs of our customers. We love a challenge and would welcome the opportunity to collaborate.

Did you know...

All bunk beds purchased after 2003 must comply with the provisions provided in the Consumer Protection Notice No. 1 of 2003 – Consumer Product Safety Standard: Bunk Beds. This outlines the minimum and mandatory sections of Australian Standard AS/NZS 4220:2010 Bunks beds and other elevated beds. Manufacturers who choose to subject their bunks to testing and pass receive the ‘Orange Tick’ certification.

Manufacturers who choose to test their bunk beds to the full AS/NZS 4220:2010 Bunks beds and other elevated beds standard and pass receive the ‘Blue Tick’ certification. Testing for this is much more comprehensive and includes safety checks, strength & durability and stability tests.

AS/NZS 4220:2010 Bunks beds and other elevated beds sets out safety requirements, including materials, construction, design and performance requirements, that are aimed to reduce the likelihood of deaths or injuries to children falling from bunk beds or from other bed-related hazards.

The Standard also includes methods for testing a range of design features including fall-through and entrapment hazards, stability, stress and fatigue and the ability to withstand repeated impact. Whilst it is not mandatory for manufacturers to have their beds tested, they must ensure their products meet these requirements.

Handbook 393-2011 Bunk beds for short term accommodation has been introduced and whilst it is not mandatory it is aimed at helping short term accommodation organisations ensure they have safe, compliant bunks.

Failure to comply with mandatory requirements of bunks purchased after 2003 can leave you liable for heavy fines of up to $1.1 million for companies and up to $220,000 for individuals.

Please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions in regards to your compliance with these requirements.
