Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance

The Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance (HPCA) is active in increasing awareness of the importance of early diagnosis of prostate cancer, promoting testing, and providing support for sufferers. The charity focuses on the Hunter New England Region, where currently more men die of prostate cancer than anywhere else in NSW. A reason for this is that there was not enough awareness of the disease in this region. A key feature of our charity is that we are the only known organisation in Australia that offers a free service provided by counsellors that are fully qualified and registered with national industry associations.

HPCA services the entire Hunter New England Region, providing:
* Free qualified counselling to men and their families with fully qualified and registered with national industry association
* A referral service to General Practitioners and Urologists where they can send their patients, at no charge, for support counselling and further information
* Education seminars throughout the community and male dominated workplaces
* Media awareness through strong links with television, radio, newspapers and industry magazines
* Fundraising and Awareness events at various places throughout Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Lake Macquarie and Bay Area to increase the awareness of prostate cancer and encourage early detection.
