Who We Are:
Our parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is cared for by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC – www.misacor.org.au), an international religious order which offers our world a ‘spirituality of the heart’. We try to live this heart-centred spirituality in our parish by getting to know the loving heart of Jesus and understanding that we are called to ‘be on earth the heart of God’. This means that we respect and prioritize each person’s search for God, that we work to create an atmosphere of genuine welcome and acceptance within our community , and that we endeavour to be a compassionate and concerned presence in a world often marked by injustice, suffering and loneliness. We value good liturgy, the practice of contemplation and meditation, a solid spiritual formation, small groups for the different ages and personal needs, and a practical social justice. We are proud of our parish primary school, and support all the schools in our area, and are active in our local hospitals and nursing homes.

Although Catholics have been active in our area for over 100 years – Star of the Sea Convent School was opened by the Sisters of Mercy in 1912 – we became a parish only in 1957. The parish goes from West Lakes to West Beach. Our current church is modern in style, and was built in the early 1990s; it is the third church on this site (the first church is now our parish hall, and the second church was demolished to make way for a larger building).
