More about Harvest Good

One serve of Matcha green tea powder has the nutritional value and antioxidant levels equivalent to 10 cups of regular green tea.

What is Matcha tea?
Matacha is made from Japanese stone ground green tea. The green tea plants that are used for matcha are grown in the shade for about three weeks before they are harvested. The leaves are hand picked then steamed, graded, de-stemmed and de-veined to create Tencha (the name for tea leaves used for Matcha). The organic tealeaves are then slowly ground into a vibrant green powder.

Why is it so good for me?
We know green tea is good for us right? Antioxidants and all that. Matcha takes it one step further. This vibrant green powder has a serious amount of health benefits.

+ CONCENTRATION
Due to its high level of L-theanine (consumption directly impacts the brain), the green tea actually works to calm the body, reducing stress and improves memory, alertness and cognitive function, (ancient monks use to drink Matcha to concentrate during meditation). Per serve, Matcha only contains around 35 grams of caffeine, which is less than half of what you would get in your standard coffee (80-90 grams) containing atechin (antioxidants) molecules, essentially meaning it is absorbed slowly into the bloodstream- meaning no 11am slump is the perfect drink pre-workout to put in you in the right frame of mind.

+ IMMUNE SYSTEM + DETOXIFIES + BLOOD PRESSURE
Matcha is also high in antioxidants helping support your immune system, is a safe way to detoxify the body and the digestive system, as well as being high in chlorophyll which detoxifies the blood eventually making your skin look clearer and healthier. ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is the method of measuring antioxidant values in food, developed by the National Institute of Health. The ORAC rating for Matcha is roughly 1300 units on a per gram basis, making it one of the highest among the super foods., it actually contains more antioxidants that all the anti-oxidant rich foods put together. Matcha doesn’t raise blood pressure or heat rate – whilst being recorded as having improved physical endurance by 24%

+ FAT BURNING
Matcha is also great for fitness and weight loss- It’s known for fat burning (burning calories by four times),. It works as a fat blocker, meaning our fat is passed through the body rather than absorbed and stored. Matcha is loaded with EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate). EGCG is the most abundant antioxidant in tea and is known for its ability to boost metabolism and help the body break down large molecules to be utilised as energy (fat oxidisation).

How to enjoy
Matcha can be used in cold drinks like smoothies and protein shakes for added health benefits, or mixed as a green tea with hot water and hot milk for a matcha latte. If blended with fruits for digestive vitality the best combo is raw fruits which contain more fiber, less sugar and calories, whilst being high in antioxidants, which complements your daily Matcha in-take well. One to two teaspoons per day of Matcha can supply you with all your daily antioxidant requirements. It’s also used in recipes to add that hint of green and the recognizable green tea flavour. Overall matcha is a one-stop shop to preserving the body balance and wellbeing.
