More about Harrietville Cricket Club

1982/83 saw the rebirth of cricket in Harrietville after a retreat lasting 26 years. The club itself has been around since 1900. With the help of many locals the swampland at the top of the town was transformed into what people describe today as the best place to play cricket in the north east.
The reformed team consisting of twenty players, captained by local publican, Joe Romeo, entered a team into the Ovens & Kiewa Valley Cricket Association and showed the large crowd what teamwork and enthusiasm could do and this resulted in a well deserved premiership, and so the Hurricane legend began.
The spirit and camaraderie has lasted from those early beginnings all the way through to the present day where exactly 30 years later co-captains Darren Grossman and Corey Daly along with the rest of the “Great Old Harrietville Team” hoisted aloft the WDCA C Grade Premiership. After a season of turmoil with the bushfires ravaging the area, the team stood tall and with the blood, guts and toil of payers past running through the team they were never going to lose.
Other teams say there in something special about Harrietville and the way we play our cricket but look no further than the 82/83 team for the answer. Long live Harrietville Cricket Club.
From these humble yet successful beginnings the Hurricane legend has grown and now thirty years later, the Harrietville Cricket Club is still going strong and is the current WDCA C Grade Premiers.
