Local hosts Chef, Rachel Hannaford and Sous Chef Sasha Sachs from Award winning gourmet caterers Hannaford & Sachs, have created 3 outstanding island dining experiences that have history, personal significance and character combined; to ensure that their guests never forget their time on Kangaroo Island.
The idea behind their venture was to combine the beauty of their natural surroundings on the island with their passion for internationally inspired cooking and love of local fresh produce, and to be able to share their warm hospitality with locals and travellers alike.
So in the Summer of 2015 the Fairy tale 150yr old Fig Tree pop up dining experience was born, along with the beach side Taverna, both overlooking the stunning sands of Snellings Beach and both perfect solutions for that indulgent lazy lunch. In Winter months guests can enjoy a relaxed, internationally inspired lunch inside the beautifully restored Shearing Shed, surrounded by aged sugar gum trees.
Rachel has worked in leading restaurants in all over the world but more recently at Sean's Panaroma in Sydney and El Arrayan in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Rachel has also cooked for a host of famous names including the Dalai Lama, KD Lang and Mick Jagger.
Sasha brings with her over 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry across Management, Operations & Training in London, Jamaica, Budapest and various European cities. She is now responsible for Operations (and desserts) for Hannaford & Sachs.
They have recently been recognized by Authentic Kangaroo Island as winners of the Food & Wine Awards 2016 and were proudly in the top 10 finalists in the Southern & Hills Region Awards 2016.
