Halls Creek covers an area of 143,000 square kilometres, larger than the entire United Kingdom. There is one township of modest Size and many remote Aboriginal communities. The landscape is awesome, with ancient eroded hills, outback desert and bush and grassy plains. Huge rivers flow in the wet season and the greenery becomes luxuriant. In the dry the riverbeds are sandy and dry, and the greenery turns to olive and brown. When the rivers are full, many communities are isolated for weeks or even months.
