Guild of Objects

Guild of Objects (affectionately known as ‘Guild’) is both an online store and a bricks and mortar shop located in North Melbourne which has emerged to support a new generation of Australian makers, crafters, artists and artisans.

Started in June 2015 by three small batch potters – Brooke Thorn, Chela Edmunds and Tao Oudomvilay – who know how hard it can be to get a small business off the ground and get original, hand crafted work ‘out there’ and seen by people in the wider community. The threesome met whilst working out of Elm Place Studio in North Melbourne, which is a shared artist space. They wanted to find a way to share their own work with their local community, but also to exhibit the work of the many other artists and makers who they’ve met along the way - Elm Place peers and other members of the thriving Melbourne, Victorian and Australian maker’s scenes.

Guild was born as a retail store, an exhibition space and place for fun, social crafting workshops. Its aim is to foster neighbourhood interaction, artist experimentation and a general love of the handmade object.
