GTEC Geelong

The Geelong Technical Education Centre (GTEC) is part of The Gordon and offers an integrated 3-part program including VCAL, trade or course training and school-based apprenticeships (SBATs) to students aged 16-19.

At GTEC we believe all learning is underpinned by significant relationships. The GTEC Community Projects curriculum allows our students to build their skills and knowledge through engagement with local and now international communities.

Some of the local and interstate communities we have worked with so far include the City of Greater Geelong, Breamlea, SmART Streets, Northern Bay, Warralily, Primary Schools, Kids + Foundation and Clockwork. We had a successful trip to Archer Point in Far North Queensland in November 2013 with seven students and two staff members building a new rangers office for the local Yuku Baja Muliku people. This was organised in conjunction with Highton Rotary and had positive and rewarding outcomes for all members of the working group.

We also headed off to Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2014 to build a playground for the children of ABC’s and Rice School. ABCs and Rice are a non-profit organization offering free education, sustainable food and health care to the impoverished children of Siem Reap. Some of these children have been exposed to conditions that hinder their well-being and ABC’s and Rice provide a safe haven for them to learn and grow.
