What is the Grow Lightly Food Hub?

Grow Lightly works to encourage people to grow and eat food grown locally, mainly in South and West Gippsland. For close to ten years it has been supplying weekly boxes and bags of fresh organic fruit and vegetables, using an ever-expanding network of volunteers to pack and distribute bags to Gippsland households. The aim is to help give people access to high-quality local food, and to encourage small-scale organic horticulture in the local area.

Grow Lightly now has a Food Hub where you can shop for clean, fresh and local produce and a huge range of other products. You can also stop by for an espresso coffee and catch up with friends, let your children play on the playground outside or get cosy in front of the open fire. Besides Grow Lightly, this space is used by the Council’s Sustainability Team, and for a range of community events and workshops.

Grow Lightly grew from a concern about global environmental trends, particularly global warming, peak oil and the depletion of our soils, and the prospect of ongoing water shortages.

People must eat, and we believe it’s important to make truly fresh food available; to reduce food miles to an absolute minimum; and to recognize the environmental cost of food production.
