More about Greensborough Netball Club

The Greensborough Netball Club Inc. (GNC) was founded in 2011 by Nicole Doherty, a passionate Greensborough Football Club supporter. GNC initially was formed as a social but competitive netball club and registered in the Northern Football Leagues Netball competition.

In 2011, GNC had two teams, GNC A registered in the third division and and GNC B registered in the fourth division. At the completion of the 2011 season, GNC A made it to the Preliminary Finals and GNC B were Runners Up.

After the success of 2011, GNC held its first player trials for the 2012 season, and GNC A was registered into division two and GNC B was registered into division four. At the completion of the 2012 season , GNC A finished fifth and GNC B made it through to the semi finals.

2013 had six teams registered in five of the six divisions of the NFL Netball competition, making the Greensborough Netball Club the largest that year. GNC teams 2 and 5 made finals with Team 5, playing off in the Division six Grand Final, unfortunately going down by a few goals to the highly skilled Fitzroy Stars.

In season 2014, the league was renamed to the Northern Netball League due to the expansion of netball in Melbourne’s North-East Suburbs. Two new coaches with strong advanced coaching and development qualifications were been appointed, Development Coach Sharon Ashworth and Head Coach Alan Watson. A major move occurred in the offseason with GNC securing an ongoing partnership with the Banyule and Districts Netball Association (BDNA) . GNC had five strong, competitive teams in the 2014 NNL competition with GNC 2 in division two and GNC 5 in division seven making it through to finals.

In 2015, Sharon Ashworth will take over the reigns as GNC head coach.
