More about Grafton Jacaranda Festival

The world-renowned Jacaranda Festival is held annually in Grafton, Northern Rivers New South Wales, from the last weekend in October to the first weekend in November. A range of prelude events are also held in the lead up to official Jacaranda week celebrations. Inaugurated in 1934, this was the first of Australia's folk festivals and celebrates the magnificent spectacle of the hundreds of lilac-blossomed trees that grow in Grafton's broad tree lined avenues.

Grafton Jacaranda Festival events are designed to reflect the unique character and culture of the historic “Jacaranda City” and the iconic Jacaranda Tree is the pinnacle of recognition of the region’s natural differentiating character.

A colourful celebration of the hundreds of gorgeous Jacaranda trees which line Grafton's streets, the annual Jacaranda Festival plays host to many and varied festival events including but not limited to a formal opening ball, the chaos and colour of street parades and markets, cultural and handicraft displays, corporate business competitions, boats and concerts showcasing the mighty Clarence River, rural and country themed events, open gardens, fun-filled family orientated events for children, retail sales and promotional opportunities, educational school involvement projects, artistic talent shows and concerts, charming historical vintage interest displays, cycling, running and fitness events, and the traditional crowning of a Jacaranda Festival Queen and Royal Party.
