Gavin Howlett - ACTON South West

Meeting Gavin Howlett of ACTON South West Dunsborough, you are immediately struck by someone of quick wit and ready smile. You get the feeling he'd move heaven and earth for his clients, and this, along with a lot of hard work, probably lies behind his years of success in real estate.

Originally from Donnybrook, Gavin is a boiler maker welder by trade, and spent many years “working with anything in metal” for Channel 7 in Perth. “Every week Channel 7 would have an interesting job for me - whether it was making a float for the Christmas pageant, Junior Sports Star, Miss Summer Girl or fixing up vans for the footy,” said Gavin “we had 7 carpenters working with me, but I was the only metal worker.”

Meanwhile, Gavin was playing footy for East Perth and West Perth. “This was before the Eagles, so we'd often have 20,000 at a game” said Gavin, who was a ruck rover or centreman for 6 years in the WAFL.” But I had to give it away after 66 games aged only 26, although some of my mates at the time went on to play over 150 games.”

Gavin married Teresa and they moved to Karratha, where he worked in the trade business before moving back to Perth to take up a sales role in a welding company. The company then moved him to Dunsborough and for 5 years he learned his craft as a salesman all around the South West. “In 2002, the company was bought out by an American firm, and they wanted me to move back to Perth; but I had 2 boys by then and we all loved the Dunsborough lifestyle,” said Gavin, “so a mate of mine introduced me to Brian Moulton, who ran the local real estate firm, and I met him, did my real estate course and that's how my real estate career started.”

“I really enjoy it - it's the best move I've ever made. I get to meet so many people, help them out and work all over the place, while still having our base here in Dunsborough. The team here at South West are fantastic - everyone helps everyone else, and gets on well. Good Directors, good team.”

Outside of real estate (which we all know can be an encompassing career) Gavin has been very active over the years - he has coached Dunsborough's under 16's cricket team, and the under 15's football teams to premierships, and plays in the local veterans cricket team. In the 15 seasons the vets cricket league has been going, his team has won 14 out of 15 premierships (of which Gavin captained 5).

Gavin can also be seen on the local golf course and he loves fishing, so you can imagine he is very happy where he is, and will continue to be a fixture in the Dunsborough real estate scene for many years to come.
