More about Gambi Air Flying School

OUR OBJECTIVES:
We endeavour to teach our students the techniques and skill our crew has attained in their decades of operational flying in a vast array of disciplines.
On graduation, our pilots are well positioned to develop these skills to a higher degree through the gaining of flying experience.

WHERE WE ARE:
Gambi Air Flying School's flight office is in Building 7, in front of de Bruin Air's Hangar at Mt Gambier Airport, South Australia.
The District Council of Grant own and operate the airport.

THE AIRPORT:
With sealed taxiways and three sealed runways, the airport provides an ideal facility to teach the skills required for takeoff, approach and landing techniques taught by Gambi Air Flying School. These include conventional, glide, flapless, crosswind, shortfield and limited distance procedures. Emergencies with on-airport landings are also practiced extensively.

WHAT WE DO:
Mt Gambier Airport is located in a CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency ) area with RPT (Regular Public Transport) airline flights conducted by REX Airlines.
Flight training conducted, 'mixing it' with airline traffic is advantageous to trainee pilots as they are exposed to a commercial operating environment honing their command decision making, radio, situational awareness and traffic sequencing skills.
Whilst initially this can be a little intimidating, once some experience is gained it gives the trainee pilot a much higher degree of confidence in their flying ability.

DUTY OF CARE:
We take this very seriously at Gambi Air Flying School. Graduate pilots must be prepared to a standard that meets or exceeds the requirements of Recreational Aviation Australia Inc., or the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Australia.)
Duty of Care is unfortunately not recognised appropriately by many in the community. Hopefully time will overcome this shortfall.
