Frankie Lane

I am an Australian, Brisbane based artist emerging with my current practice in ceramics. For me there is reassurance in the repetitious labour of layering clay and creating forms that progress through different states; from malleable and cool, to dry and brittle, then with extreme heat, transformed into stone.

Clay mirrors the fragility of the natural environment and it’s constant of process change and adaption. Nature is used in my work as a metaphor for fragility, strength and resilience. I study organic forms and create the perfectly imperfect pieces that reveal the handmade. My work also engages with elements of the domestic, referring to our emergence from and impact on the natural environment.

Similarly to fresh clay I am at the beginning of my journey as an artist, the form of my practice is malleable, though a discussion with and about the ‘natural’ will always form the nucleus of my work. I embrace the inevitable change that will take place in my work as I expand my investigation into organic material and the workings of our ecologies.
