Flogged Donkey founder George Vagala has had years of experience around water whether on boats fishing, surfing or working in the industry building surfboards water sports have always been a passion of his. It was a natural progression for George to spark an interest in wake surfing.

With so many years building surfboards and fooling around in boats, George has been keenly following and getting involved with the sport of wake surfing. Quick to see some similarities across the two sports, it wasn’t long before the creative juices were flowing and George shaped his first wake surf board.

Since then it has been a non-stop roller coaster of design and refinement. Not only in board design, but in ballast set up and configuring boats for the ultimate wave performance.
Over the years George has found the greatest challenge participating in the sport is in getting your setup right so you have a wave that you can perform on. Hours of pondering have gone into finetuning that wave and George is still pushing and challenging his boat setup and wave performance.

Once the wave was starting to open up and offer some performance it has allowed George to really start focusing on board design and their performance. Coming in from surfboard design, it took a little bit of adjusting to understand the new rockers, rails and plan shapes that this wave was looking for. For George this was one of the most exciting developments in his design and has opened up a world of ideas since. Using everything he knows in surfboard design and combining it with the new challenges of wake surf boards and the types of waves they are riding is a constant arena for innovation.
