The amalgamation of David’s own natural insightful instincts along with knowledge he has gained from working with many gifted trainers throughout Australia has proven to be a strong combination, and resulted in David growing to become a very versatile horseman. David is very thankful that he is able to follow his true passion and actually make a living as a professional horseman and aims to persistently develop his own signature style of horsemanship and constantly strives to improve his craft.

Flex Horse Training:

David is well known in the industry for his ability to start a young performance horse under saddle and prepare them for their future careers in the western performance arena. Flex Horse Training specializes in starting Australian Stock Horses and Quarter Horses under saddle, and believes that the education a horse receives at this young age will form the solid foundation on which to build training on for the rest of their lives.

David aspires to produce soft, supple and willing young horses and aims to develop a mutual trust and understanding with each horse so they can perform at a high level, freely and confidently. Flex Horse Training places a strong emphasis on quality over quantity, so horses in training are kept to a manageable number to ensure David can spend enough quality time with each horse on a daily basis. David takes a holistic approach to horse training, so as well as designing an individual training program for each horse, they are also fed a specialized and personalized diet, offered free turn out with their health being closely managed and many complimentary performance therapies available.

As well as starting young horses on their journey under saddle, David also enjoys training older horses for Australian Stockman’s Challenge events and competes throughout Queensland. This unique Australian sport requires horses and riders to perform a dry work pattern which demonstrates various maneuvers such as spins, large fast circles, stops and roll backs as well as a working cow pattern where the rider must show complete control of the beast. This sport demands a very versatile, confident and well-trained combination.


Working with horses is certainly not just an ordinary job for David, it’s a complete and consuming lifestyle that he has the luxury of enjoying every day and he wouldn’t want it any other way!
