Fighting Chance is a youth-led, not for profit organisation for young Australians with physical disabilities. We exist to create opportunities, in areas of employment and life experience, for young people who face endemic levels of unemployment and social isolation, simply because they have a disability.
Fighting Chance exists because the current system is broken. In a submission to a prominent government report (Shut Out), 56% of people who entered submissions reported the disabilities services they use act as a barrier, rather than a facilitator, to their participation in an active daily life.
We exist to help young Australians with disabilities realize their ambition to lead fulfilling and productive lives. We are working hard to construct a model of service provision that is built on principles of a ‘person-centred approach’; that sees services not as ‘charity’ but as a social investment in realizing the potential of people with disabilities.
Our Social Enterprise Program runs small social businesses and employs people with disabilities in tailored roles, which suit their abilities.
Our LifeX program makes social inclusion a reality by organizing regular social events and leisure activities.
