More about Fibrefaerie

Fibrefaerie melds together my love of the unseen forces of the natural world and my addiction to the creation of fabric with fibre using a few sticks or a hook.

Ever since I was a child I have created objects out of wool, felt, bark, beads and fabric of all shapes and sizes. Most of my friends and family have received a handmade gift from me at some point in their life, and it fills my heart with joy to see them still valued all these years later.

The seeds for FibreFaerie were planted several years ago, when I began a social fibre arts club that created a space for women to talk, laugh, share, learn and make, while making items for charities in my spare time. I began to teach and share what I knew, and I found it inspired others to challenge themselves with learning new skills and making for others. I decided to take a leap of faith and begin a home-based craft business, teaching others to make with fibre and designing patterns as an artistic outlet, as selling my creations has never really been my focus.

It was my mission to make the world more beautiful with fibre creations (I’m guilty of a tree jumper or two …) and to remind people that a handmade gift made with love is the most priceless treasure of all.

I wanted to encourage a love of all things handmade, recycled, vintage, and heartfelt.

I wanted to inspire others to take up fibre craft, for the joy in giving to those around you, not just the ones you love but the ones who are in need, is immeasurable.

I also wanted to remember our grandmothers passed on more than just a craft. Their knowledge was wrapped in friendship and acceptance, tied up with strings of community and wisdom, and topped with a bow of connectedness and love.

Over the years I have continued to maintain the original FibreFaerie dream, and I am still enjoying teaching the crafts of knitting and crochet and spreading the word of Handmade and ReUse wherever I go. I love to learn new skills every day, and to inspire others to pick up a stick or two and remember what is what like for the generations of women before us, who nurtured their families and their communities by gathering to share, create, inspire and give.

I have since spent a year in the Central Australian Desert and have taught many workshops and classes. As I am currently travelling I am happy to come and hold a workshop in your home. Feel free to contact me for more info.
