More about Fauna Rescue of South Australia Inc.

Fauna Rescue SA was established almost 30 years ago by a small group of dedicated wildlife rescuers and carers. We are now the largest wildlife rescue group in South Australia with around 500 members. Not all members play an active role with wildlife however, their support is vital to our interests and financial operations. Our members are spread far and wide across Adelaide metro and country areas.

Fauna Rescue SA is recognised as a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation specialist in South Australia. We regularly receive referrals from RSPCA, Animal Welfare League, Adelaide Zoo, state and local government departments, wildlife parks, vets and other rescue groups.

Our policy is to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Release. Animal welfare is always the highest priority and in certain instances euthanasia or long term care are options. Although we attempt to release as close as possible to the rescue site, new appropriate release sites are always welcomed.

We have monthly training workshops to share our knowledge and experience. There are a wide range of free training notes for members that give specific details of the finer points in caring for rescued wildlife.

Our rescuers, carers and administrative staff are all unpaid volunteers. We receive no government funding and we are entirely dependent on fundraising and donations from the public.

We are greatly indebted to the small number of veterinary clinics that provide a no, or low cost service to wildlife requiring treatment.

Fauna Rescue SA is highly respected for wildlife knowledge and experience. We regularly conduct educational talks and workshops at schools, clubs and events in order to raise wildlife awareness.

Over the last few years there has been a huge increase in wildlife rescues and the number of rescued wildlife needing rehabilitation. We need to raise more funds to cope with the rising costs of saving South Australia's wildlife. Costs include veterinary bills and supplies, rescue equipment, specialised dietary requirements, nesting boxes, compounds, aviaries and cages.

We are a high-profile organisation and welcome the support of sponsors.

We are a registered charity and personal donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
